a girl can dream

I think my dream job would be as a photographer. I don't like taking pictures of people so much, but definitely landscapes and the occasional wildlife. I think it's my mom's fault: she was a photographer when I was younger. She concentrated on portraiture, though. (Incidentally, I was her model for most things - I was in calendars, the newspaper, even on her business cards. So I blame her for my camera whoring too.) I used to help her out a bunch, and point out things that she should take pictures of. This was back in the days of good old film cameras, so by the time the pictures were developed (in our house - we had a darkroom), she would see the ones I made her take and be very impressed.

When I came back from Argentina in college, I saw all the cool pictures I had taken with my crappy point & shoot camera. And I mean it was a crappy cheapo thing, so the possibilities of what I could have taken made my head spin. I told my mom this, and she used her good standing as a photographer (even though she hadn't done it in years) to get a super deal on a really nice camera from a local shop. It was my first "real" camera with interchangable lenses, manual settings, etc. Sadly I didn't use it as much as I should have because I did not have a darkroom, and the camera was too bulky to carry everywhere. Then I had to sell it on ebay when I moved to Michigan so I could eat.

Right now I've got a point & shoot camera, which is perfect for taking with me everywhere. It has some manual settings, but it's still a point & shoot. I would like another big fancy one someday, but it will have to wait unti I have several hundred dollars that I don't need for other things. But I still think I've taken some good pictures. Here are some recent examples that you may have seen before:

I've got a thing for color & lines. I take lots of pictures of clouds & trees, which I have not included here.

Des you have the talent no doubt about that.

About $500 or less would get you into a Nikon D40 with a kit zoom lens. That would be a great start.

Thanks Arlene. :)

I will probably be coming to you for advice & recommendations when I do buy a new camera.

Your shots are really nice. I kind of like seeing how far I can push the point and shoot thing - though my heart does long for a big fancy SLR rig.

Yeah, I'm kind of proud of the cool things I can do with a point & shoot.

Not bad at all! I have a lame point and shoot too but they're great because I never leave the house without a camera so it fits nicely in my purse. I'm eyeing a pricey Sony or Nikon for my birthday. I love photos.

Blogger still won't let me log on to your site with Iexplorer for some reason. oh well.

A super duper fancy camera would be nice, but I think the portablity factor plays a major role. :)
