overcoming completely rational fears, one squirrel at a time

So you know Griswold. Our pet squirrel. We can feed him by hand. That's right, I said we.

One day, while Jay wasn't home, (how convenient!) Griswold came by looking for his daily handful of peanuts. I was feeling exceptionally brave, and G hadn't tried to eat my face yet, so I decided to give it a shot. Plus if I was killed or horribly mutated, that would tech Jay to leave me to my own devices. Ok, nevermind, I'm not that vindictive.

But I knelt down holding the very end of a peanut, giving G the most room possible so there was no accidental finger biting. And he took it! He was super gentle and very nice. In fact, he proved himself to be the exception to the face-biting rule. I knew nobody would believe me, so check this out:

You can tell that's me, not only by the angle of the shot, but by that pretty purple nail polish.

I haven't yet made a move to pat his head, but soon. Soon, my pretty. One step at a time, right?

Squirrels are so violent Des. You should be careful. :O)

I heart Griswold. Does he look in your window on days you guys don't feed him? I had a squirrel friend once that used to do that if I forgot to leave his corn outside. But I never fed him by hand- he wouldn't let me so you guys are lucky.

He not only looks in, but he climbs our screen and sits in the patio chairs. It can actually be a little annoying. Get off my screen door!
