hard to live in the Midwest
I miss other states.

still vegan or are you on dairy now?

I do the whole dairy thing. Otherwise, I'm pretty sure I'd be dead.

I do get mighty sick of cheese though.

Down here in the Carolinas, I'm feeling your pain. Oh yes.

I think the number of people that identify is just small enough that it our situation will never change.
*sigh*

Dude, there are good cities in the midwest for vegetarians. You, unfortunately, are just not in one. But don't be dissing the whole section of the country, or I'll be defending my home turf like the nasty former Chicagoan I sort of am.

Hey, I've been to Chicago a few times. There is very fat pizza, which includes that whole "cheese" thing, and big fat hot dogs.

But you have to admit that CA and NYC have far more veggie options. And No Smoking.

iowa has now passed a ban on all public smoking (to start in july-just signed by our governor a couple weeks ago) & iowa city is quite friendly for vegetarians.

I seem to have grown up on more foods than pizza and hot dogs, although that may be what the city is famous for, as well as its meat packing industry. However, given Chicago's huge South Indian/Asian population, plus its alternative indie community, I certainly can go to many restaurants when I go home that have a variety of vegetarian options that do not involve pizza. Or bowling for that matter. Maybe I am being a bit prickly about this, but despite it's location in the Midwest, Chicago is a very cosmopolitan city. These blanket statements raise my dander as much as saying that everyone from Northern California is a flaky New Age hippie might bother someone else. (And for the record, I do not think that about everyone from N. Cal...)

Woman, nowhere did I mention your precious Chicago.
