Dear Laundromat,

Dear Laundromat around the corner,

I realize that you have a sign saying "not responsible for lost or damaged items" but I had always thought that applied to things someone may have forgotten or didn't know how to wash correctly. I did not assume that it meant when I dropped off laundry and picked it up the next day, sans 2 pairs of pants, that there would be nothing I could do about it. It also did not help that the guy working there spoke not a lick of English.

I didn't even get a chance to say goodbye to my one pair of jeans and my winter pants that were black with purple pinstripes. I also realize that I was going to buy new pants anyway, as I seem to have lost enough weight since last winter that my pants no longer fit me. However, I did want to be able to have backup pants. I suppose I could institute some sort of no-pants rule in my daily life, however, my employers are big on wearing pants, and this being NYC in late December, I would prefer to wear pants while outside. Silly me for thinking they should be clean pants.

Oh, and thanks for doing this right before I go out of town for xmas, too.

Love,
des the pantsless

i'm sorry about the missing pants, but imagining you pantsless (in a completely non-sexual way) is making me giggle.

I don't know how laundromats handle their dropped-off clothes (I always went to the ones where you washed your own clothes and waited around in front of the dryers), but I remember that my dad used to run out of towels when he used a drop-off laundromat. Every few months he'd go in and tell them about his towel problem and they'd give him a stack of random towels that they'd somehow neglected to give back to their rightful owners.

Oh no! Well if it makes you feel better, once my Grandmother and I had some laundry washed because our dryer was broken. When we picked up, we noticed when we got home that EVERY SINGLE one of our panties(yes mine AND hers) was missing. We were so grossed out we didn't even bother to complain about it. Come to think of it this happened around Christmas time too! heehee

Merry Christmas Des!

I would have never thought that either! I used to use a drop off laundromat when I lived in NYC, but I don't remember missing anything. Some of the stuff was tinged a weird color though but that didn't stop me from using them! Well, enjoy getting your new pants!
