ghost

Last night, around 4am I was asleep. Surprise. I was having some wackadoo dream that involved David Hyde Pierce pretending he was a communist and threatening to run off to Cuba.

Then someone whispered in my ear.

I couldn't understand what they said, but I awoke with a start, cold goosebumps all over my body. I felt the whisper - it was not part of the dream. It filled me with a horrible dread that lingered as a severe chill. I looked around. C was lying on my left side (the whisper was in my right ear) facing away from me. The cat was on my pillow but his head was also on my left side. Both were sound asleep.

But I was jarred. Nothing like that has happened to me in a long long time. Since I was now wide awake, I used the facilities. I was a little creeped out still and did not look in the mirror lest I see a shadowy form behind me. Something possessed me to change the overflowing trash bag in the bathroom trash, but since it was 4am and I was not of my right senses, I couldn't quite get it. It took me 10 minutes, by the green clock on the stove. But it gave me some time to rationale what had happened.

My apartment is not haunted, I know that. Nothing in the 2 years I've lived here has led me to believe so. Plus, it is a brand new building (only 1 year old when we moved in). The fact that the cat didn't awaken was important; If there had really been a threatening presence there, the super-sensitive animal would know. As for C, well, it didn't whisper in his ear, so I can't expect him to wake up.

I convinced myself it was a harmless poltergeist just trying to scare me. They don't have any real power, and this one was just stopping by. He disappeared completely as soon as I opened my eyes. I was able to go back to sleep, though I did pull the covers a little tighter.

Oh, wow, I had to shudder at that one. Yikes! I have the bizarro dreams all the time, but have never experienced the ghostish stuff.

I always have crazy dreams, but not often with the ghost stuff.

So it was a man? I believe it. I've had similar experiences. And I wish I could tell you a few things of my own. But I don't want to scare you(or myself). Even though I know there's no reason to fear ghosts, it's still creepy. It might have been a harmless spirit trying to tell you something if you can believe that. I do.

A place doesn't have to be old to have spirits around.

I read somewhere that ancient Egyptians believed that cats were guardians of the dead.

Ok I didn't want to scare you but I'm dying to ask-did you sense anything else? Did you feel a change in the air-I don't mean temperature but like an electric feeling? Do you remember what was said? When you felt the whisper did you feel air or actual lips? Did you see what he looked like?

Everything was gone the instant I opened my eyes. When he (I don't know why I know it was a man) whispered, I felt the whisper of air in my ear. I couldn't understand what was said. I don't know if it was in another language or just slurred.
