Well, everything is confirmed. We are moving to our shiny new diggs on the 5th. Boxes are coming the day after tomorrow, and then I get to pack like mad. (And I say I get to pack like mad because *somebody* will be at school all day while I am home "enjoying" my unemployment.) Lucky for us this apartment , though crammed to overflowing, is only 350 sq feet. Many of the things are already packed (read: we never unpacked them from our move from CA) or are easy to pack things like books, CDs, and DVDs.
The best part? Since this is NYC we are paying someone to do all the actual lifting and carrying up and down 2 flights of narrow stairs (each way) so poor weak (read: lazy) little des doesn't have to do it. Well that's not true, we are still renting a U-Haul van to take over some things ourselves, but they are all light and / or easy to carry. Or they are things like my beads that I would prefer to take myself because if you do not hold the cases upright, all the little beads mix with each other and then des has to spend all her free time sorting them out again because she will go insane until they are in order (not to mention she won't be able to make anything from that mess). And I know this from experience because even though I planned to put them in the car 2 years ago for our month-long cross-country drive (not that I was going to use them on the trip), *someone* thought they would fit perfectly, albeit sideways, into the crate that was getting shipped to NY with all the rest of our stuff. I'll just say there were many harsh words spoken for months as I carefully sorted beads.
Anyway, we still have to figure out how to get the cat to New Apartment. We want to take stuff over in the van the day before the movers come so there will be room for people and boxes to maneuver. However, we can't take the cat before the movers come because a) our bed will not be there so we can not stay the night with the cat, and b) the cat's tower will not be there so he will think we are abandoning him. Mecru is generally a good mover as long as he knows that all of our stuff and more importantly, all of his stuff has been moved with him. Maybe we'll take him over the day before with the van and then use the trusty air mattress for a night. It will be like that camping trip I didn't get to go on.
I'm assuming we will instantly have internet when we move because I am addicted to it and cannot bear a break. Plus C will probably have some "work" or something he needs to do. And of course I'll still be on while I'm packing because like I said, I'm addicted. But if you don't hear from me in like a week that's why.
Yay moving!

I HATE moving. At least you don't have to do any of the heavy stuff. I say the air mattress plan sounds good. You don't want to traumatize the cat, he'll never forgive you.
I hate moving too. I'm hoping this time won't be so bad. And yes, I have to make sure the cat is ok.
;)
I'm with you on the "Pay others to move your stuff". When I moved out here, GEICO paid for it. After that, I was on my own.
We'll be waiting when you get back, chick.
Unfortunately, I don't even have an employer to pay for it. But oh well.
Congrats to you, mama! can you board the cat for the day and pick her up?
Well I'd have the same problem of getting him to and from the vet's. It's hard in places like NYC when you don't have a car. (And I don't think he would like the subway too much.)
I can't wait to come and hang out with you, Jonathan Letham, and Dave Eggers in your new neighborhood.
Oh I forgot about Dave Eggers. We'll have a literary super festival.
Good luck with your move!
I'm sure I'll write all about it when we're done...
Ooooo I hope you have instant internet, too! I can't stand to live without internet. :(
well apparently there is some random wireless connection so If I stealC's laptop....
