workin life

I always said that I wanted to work from home. If the day was windy and snowy and horrrible outside, I wouldn't have to leave. I could wake up when I wanted, I could stay in my pajamas, I could take a break (and eat) whenever I wanted. I've come to accept that this will never happen. I get distracted too easily at home: Oh look, there's the cat! I haven't played WoW in a while... and so on. I don't really like tv, but I will watch it endlessly instead of doing other things that are more productive.

But this job is working out for me. It's only a 10-15 minute walk from my house, so even if the weather does suck I don't have to drive in it (or rather have Jay drive me because I am still car-less). When I get here, I'm the only one in the store, so I can do whatever I want, just like if I were at home. Sure, there's no tv, but I could make that happen if I were so inclined. As it is, I get to turn on the xm radio and surf the inet all day long, singing along to whatever silly songs happen to come on. As of right now I have no access to facebook or myspace, so that limits my options a little, but I can deal. (Also, those sites are supposed to be un-blocked soon anyway.)

If the internets are dead for a little while, I can read a book. This means I will go through books a lot faster and will probably have to buy more books. Damn shame, that. At some point I may bring in DVDs to watch, but then I'll have to bring my docking station which doubles the size & weight of my laptop. Until I feel that need, I can watch random youtubes or hulu while I eat my cup o'noodles.

Sure, there are a few things that I need to do every day; maintenance, reports, light cleaning, and such. I can handle them AND still do nothing. As for customers, I can help them and be smiley and cheery when they come in, IF they come in. Yesterday I was at work for 7 & 1/2 hours and only had one real customer and one phone call. I did have a coupla other people come in the store - one needed change fr a $100 bill, 2 didn't have all their required stuff with them, and one was ineligible for another loan (surprise - that's what happens when you don't pay back your first loan. Incidentally, she was also responsible for the phone call.). But most of yesterday was spent reading, a past time that I am clearly ok with.

Also: I get paid for being here.

I miss working with Kaitlyn (who "trained" me), but this ain't a half bad deal.
