big Valentine's Day spectacular

I've been informed that some of my readers "are waiting with baited breath" to hear about my big Valentine's Day, the first with my romantic and sweet (and yummy!) boyfriend. So even though there's not a terrible lot to tell, I think I can fashion some sort of entertaining blip about it. After all, that's what I do.

I've always been a firm believer in *not* celebrating VD, because it falls under the category of "days that honor things that should be honored every day" (i.e. why aren't you sharing your love every day, and if you must do it only one day a year, why does it have to be the same day as everyone else?). However, Jay is under the belief that it's a good time to do something over the top and extraordinary for your love. We agreed to disagree.

VD actually started for us on the night of the 13th. Jay warned me a package was coming and I was under strict instructions not to open it. Of course, I would have completely ignored the package if it hadn't come with that little warning. However, it was a non-issue, as it did not arrive until after Jay came home. He asked me if I wanted to open it right then, and of course I said yes because I'm impatient like that. It was a cute little t-shirt which I hadn't asked for but loved anyway. That's how you know it's a good gift.

On February 14th, I got an extra hour of sleep because Jay was in a rush and didn't want to wake me. That backfired because then he didn't get his coffee for the long cold drive to work. But I got up, wore my new shirt, and went along with my normal boring day. (You know, game shows, internet, reading.) The most exciting thing that happened all day was when I walked the dog and this 15 year old black lab romped and played like a puppy, making multiple doggie snow angels. I wish I'd had my camera, but now I know for next time.

Jay had been sick all week, so when he came home from work feeling better, that was a relief. It also allowed us to go run some much-needed errands. We went to the pet store and looked at all the cute little animals (have I mentioned that I love MI because ferrets are legal here, and they have been illegal everywhere else I've ever lived?). Then we went to the supermarket. This is where we were reminded that it was VD as a man sprinted to his car holding a bouquet of last minute flowers. This made us laugh and laugh.

I felt bad that I hadn't gotten anything for Jay (but remember, I also have no job and no car), so I took the Jack Daniels (and my own Kahlua) that he was gonna buy anyway, and made the purchase. It wasn't a surprise, but it was the best thing I could do. We were both hungry at this point, so we drove around for a bit looking for something tasty that wouldn't be crowded or too expensive and settled on what? Taco Bell. That's right, my baby and me done spent our VD with whiskey and Taco Bell. How deliciously white trash.

Our romantic evening at home was spent with him playing Guitar Hero while I made some online swimsuit purchases. There might be some details that I'm not including because the internets don't need to know, but nothing out of the ordinary. However, it was a good day and I have no complaints. I've been informed that we'll go out to dinner on Saturday, but if we don't it's no biggie.

I hope y'all had a good day, whether or not you celebrate it as Valentine's Day. I know I did.

Sounds good to me. I'm so with you about celebrating Vday. Why anyone would want someone to buy them a gift simply because they felt OBLIGATED and not one from the heart is beyond me. There's no romance in that at all. Whiskey and Taco Bell on the other hand with some Guitar Hero on the side, right up my alley.

That was right after I dyed my hair, so it was still pretty. Now it's not as pretty.
