update on the state of des

Note: If you didn't read yesterday's summary of my crash, go read it now.

So I went to the doctor like a good little injuree. I first saw a resident and she was very nice, but she wasn't really sure what to do with me so I also saw her supervising physician. They both agreed that I'd had a pretty bad fall. (Technically it was more of a fly than a fall, but close enough.) They did all sorts of tests, like lifting my arm up to see how high it could go - which was not very high at all, but I knew that already.

Apparently I was also due for a tetanus shot and since I had met dirty asphalt in more ways than one, they decided it was a good idea. They did have enough sense to give me the shot in my non-injured arm, but this just resulted in both arms being sore. The nurse giving the shot was very nice and her bday was the day before mine. When I told her I "don't do well" with shots, she got me all set up so I didn't faint. Then as she was actually giving the injection (I'm kinda about to pass out right now) she asked if it was hot in the room. When I said yes, she turned on the AC right in my face because that's a sure sign of impending pass-out.

They also did a urine test because of the whole internal-trauma thing caused by the rib smashing. This was the 2nd time in a week I've had to pee in a cup. There were trace amounts of blood in my urine, and since I'd been recently smashed they took note of it. They kept me out of work this whole week (their idea, not mine, though of course I didn't argue) and I even got a note to prove to New Boss that I'm not just avoiding the job that I hate. The doctors gave me a list of things that I should go to the ER for if they happen, and in about a week or 10 days if I'm not feeling better than to come back in for another urine test and xrays and a shoulder specialist. They didn't do any xrays yesterday because they said it's too soon to tell if anything's broken since I just got hurt 2 days ago. They don't want me to go through all that if I don't have to.

So I'm enjoying my time off work, and hoping that I don't have to go back because my collarbone is broken or something. I bought a heating pad and more ibuprofen, but for some reason the 90+ degree weather doesn't inspire me to use the pad.

I am thinking healing thoughts and good stuff on television. Feel better or at least get better drugs.

Well I don't really need the drugs as long as I do absolutely nothing. Of course, I get very bored.

Poor you. You're going to have to make a new tag -- instead of "Des Smash" you'll need "Smashed Des."

ha ha that makes me sound very drunk. Which I'm not.

I hope you are better soon, little one!

Damn, I hope that you get better soon and that the nice doctors that you saw came from the name I gave you. (At least I can then feel useful instead of being all worried and upset because my friend is hurt and there is nothing I can do about it.) Dr. P sends her well wishes, too!

The doctors did come from the name you gave me. Your doctor was out that day so I saw someone else.

it's "too soon to tell if anything's broken"? that seems weird to me, but, i'm not a doctor.

that will be lovely if you earn a "get out of work free" card. :D

I guess collarbone / shoulder is tougher to tell. And it's a lot of work and possibly pain to go through all the xrays, so if I don't get better, then they'll do it.
