Yesterday it struck me: The Best Idea Ever Thought.
Ever.
Why don't people eat pizza at their weddings? It would be relatively cheap and easy to get a local joint to make however many different topped pies. And everyone likes pizza. It can be for meat-eaters, vegetarians, vegans, people that hate mushrooms, people that love mushrooms, whatever. The only thing I can see as an argument is that pizza's not "formal" enough. But a wedding reception is about fun, and pizza is way funner than "roasted stuffed bell peppers with mushroom sauce." You can still have people in formal dress serve it. And it's less messy than other things, like pasta.
The only person around when I had this revelation was The Boyfriend, a confirmed Pizza Lover. So I asked him. His reply was a blank stare, and "Can't we just have the pizza and not get married?"* I said no.
I am so having pizza at my wedding.
* Incidentally, we are having pizza for dinner tonight.

I am so down with pizza. Especially New York Pizza. Imagine hiring a pizza specializer to chop up toppings....so fancy!
And I can have them toss the dough in the air. What's fancier than that?
I think that's a GREAT idea. We went with Middle Eastern food, but in the backyard, and not catered, just out there for people to take, buffet-style. (We picked it up from the restaurant.) I like casual, low-key weddings. Pizza would be wonderful wedding food. And pretty much everyone likes it!
BTW, your boyfriend's comment cracked me up. Sometimes I swear I can picture the two of you -- you getting all excited by the BEST IDEA EVER and him nonplussed, like "What? Can't we just have pizza and NOT get married?"
pizza is good for ANY celebration!
Especially weddings. People will always remember "that one pizza wedding"
Came here via the Blog for Choice list. My husband and I *did* have pizza at our wedding reception, and it was great! We rented out the upstairs of a local downtown bar that has 30+ beers on tap, pool tables, etc and had them make a mix of meaty and veggie pizzas. People thought we were crazy when we told them about it in advance, but everyone had a blast.
I love it! Rachel, you're the coolest. That does sound like a fun time - nice and laid back.
I tried to convince Husband to let me have pizza at our wedding, but he is from Long Island and insisted that things must be fancy. Sigh. I did at least get him to agree to a pizza rehearsal/out-of-towners dinner at my favorite Chicago deep dish joint. It was fun and delicious. Our wedding would have kicked major ass if it were here.
We will have to go there while we are in Chicago for BlogHer this summer.
When I went to Chicago for a wedding, they actually had the rehearsal dinner at a deep dish pizza place. It must be you Chicagoans.
