day off

I know I get days off. Weekends I don't have to go to work. But I still have to do things. This Saturday, though doing less than normal, I still did something.

Normally I go play with the dogs. But 3 reasons I did not this weekend:

1. Craig's fam was in town.
2. The dogs are finally moving into their new home, a brand new shelter in the Lower East Side.
3. Sonic Youth concert.

Number one you all know about.

We ate at restaurants every day, some old and some new. We even went to a Broadway show. I would like to thank Craig's parents for including Craig and I in their budget.

Sweeney Todd. Best play ever. Go see it. It's funny and beautiful and macbre. The actors act, sing, move the set, and play several instuments each. It rocked my socks. And I heard a rumour from wikipedia that my favorite actor and director are teaming up (surprise) to bring it to the big screen. I will so go see that.

Restaurant: Mario's Trattoria. I don't have a link to that yet because it is brand new. We ate there on its 4th day of business. In fact, I was the 1st person ever to order stuffed shells (delicious, by the way!). Go eat there. 493 9th Avenue. It's yum-diddly-umptious and CHEAP! Don't live in NYC? I don't care. Go eat there. Don't like Italian food? What are you, nuts? And I don't care. Go eat there.

So these are some of the things we did. Now you see why I needed a day off. Plus Craig & I were a little sick, so we were extra cranky.

Number two. Dogs.

I walk into the shelter the other day, and everything is in boxes. Actually it wasn't the real shelter, it was the tiny space in the doggie spa. But they're moving:

Animal Haven's next big soiree comes Oct. 25, with the celebration of its new Manhattan shelter in SoHo on Centre Street. They're pulling out all the stops for the shindig, which is being helmed - pro-bone-o - by professional party planner Jes Gordon, whose company, Proper Fun LLC, organizes events for clients such as Madonna, Sean Combs and Bono. And while details of the grand-opening bash are still under wraps, know that this new locale will be party central all year long.
The new facility will incorporate a state-of-the-art entertainment space, complete with a top-drawer sound system, which it plans to rent out to defray pet housing costs.

This means I don't have to deal with the designer dogs anymore. Plus, my favorite dog Lundy was adopted. I think it was by the person who dumped dog pee on me, but I won't hold that against her as long as she treats Lundy right.

Number three. Most important.

This is the real reason I had arranged for the day off from doggie walking. Those others were just incidental.

I've been trying for almost 6 months to see Sonic Youth, which is hard because they only play NYC every 6 weeks or so. But I got tickets. They were playing with the Yeah Yeah Yeahs, which is good because when I 1st heard the YYYs I thought they sounded like Sonic Youth. It only makes sense that I would see them together.

Karen from the YYYs had the most interesting outfit. A nice mix of 80s workout, spaceman, and neon. She was having fun with it. I can't find a picture of it or anything similar, but it was fun to look at.

The show was good times. It was outside, and that was fun except for the fact that it took an hour for each band to set up. Thus it was 5 hours for 3 bands to play, and SY played only about 1 hour. I wish that was an exaggeration.

*********
So that's that. Sure I got to sleep in on Saturday, but I was mucho tired on Sunday and had to pay $4 for a tiny, yucky cup o' joe at the Met.

You like sonic youth and the yeah yeah yeah's!

cool.

You'd probably like boss hog, the flaming lips, and sleater-kinney.

They are delightful.

Check them out if you aren't already acquainted.

I do like them. And I also like those others. I was sad I didn't get tickets for Sleater-Kinney's last tour, which just came through here. Of course, I found out about it after it was already sold out.

I know. Craig got one too, so that was $8.
