des = broke

I have no money. This is especially pungent when the car's battery or alternator or something dies, and it's not covered under the warranty. $350 bucks? Sure, that's great. It's not covered by the warranty because it's my fault, because I let the car sit there and corrode away. So now I have to pay $350 so I can get it on the truck and pay $1200 more dollars so the car can sit in Fresno, not moving. This is super. By the way, the truck was ready to take the car today. I had to tell them, "sorry, the car is at the dealership right now... can't get it on the truck yet. I'll call you when my car is in working order once again." Now I sound lame.

The car normally does run great. We made a 6000 mile trip with no problems whatsoever. And the only problems before that were minor, because 2003 was only the 2nd year Minis were in the US. There's bound to be a few bugs. This is minor too, but it's inconvenient.

I thought maybe to sell my Scootey. I never drive it, and it costs a heck of a lot of money. If I did sell it, that is potentially about $600 a month I would save in not having to make car payments or insurance payments. That would definitely help us get out of the debt we've already accumulated. (Damn you Pinnacare! I know you're out of business now, but because of you I was out of a job for 3 months! Karma! And damn you Longs Drugs! It is your fault I was out of work for a different 3 months - not to mention the whole "loss of use of my right hand" thing.)

But the idea of selling Super Scootey makes me sad.This car means a lot to me. I was quite proud of myself to be able my first brand new car when I was only 21 years old. Not only was I the first owner, but this car was specially made for me. I ordered it and had to wait 3 months while they built it & shipped it over from merry old England. I've had awesome times in this car; everything from crappy commuting made Mini-fun to games of "let's see how full we can cram the Mini for road trips." This latter is the reason there is now a stylish roof rack, which we got in Portland during our cross-country trip.

I know it's just a car. But it's MY car. It's the best car ever, and thinking of selling it makes me cry. So you might say "Des, if it upsets you this much, don't sell the car." But you know what also upsets me? Not eating food or paying rent. Those are important too.

Another thing that upsets me is the fact that Craig & I are the only white people in my neighborhood (the 'hood). This isn't the upsetting part. The upsetting part is that lately we've seen more & more white people around, like in the Ghetto Supermarket. I'm no racist, but more white people means higher rents, which means we may have to move. Dammit, I don't want to give up this apartment. We have central heat & air AND a washer & dryer. plus the building is only 1&1/2 years old, so there are no mice or cockroaches. Cockroaches also upset me. You might say they "freak me out a hell of a lot." But I really like our apartment. It's the best. I don't want to have to move. Besides the fact that I hate moving, and just did a major move like 6 months ago.

To review:
Need money for car & apartment.
Not willing to give up either.
Going to take up mugging people as a hobby.
