the waiting is the hardest part

Tom Petty was never so wise as when he sang that.

On Thursday, the staffing agency gave me a call and asked if I wanted an interview at a certain growing business. Because I am getting all too desperate for a job, I said of course. By desperate, I mean that I had just about given up on those fancy jobs based on my brain. Instead, I was on the verge of getting of a boob based job. I seriously considered becoming a Hooters girl, but apparently they frown on visible tattoos. Should I be disappointed that I don't meet Hooters' standards?

Well I was a little upset. Until Friday when I went in for my interview. Every part of the job was awesome. Vaguely speaking, it's in an auto body shop and I would be the Office Chick.

Office Chick: (noun) A female in a primarily male work environment, who handles all the paperwork, phones, computers, etc. while the others do the manual labor.

(And just fyi, I wouldn't be the only chick there - the interior specialist is also female. So that's right, she works in the shop with the guys.)

So anyway, my interview lasted an hour. We were having fun. They told me I was the top candidate (the aforementioned visible tattoos helped in that), but they lamentably had 2 more interviews to do. They even wanted to hire me outside the agency, so they could pay me more money. That's always good. They said they would call me on Monday. I even wrote my phone number on a post-it, which was then tacked to the wall.

Great pay
Laid back bosses, who still appreciate my great work ethic
Close to my house
Atypical office job - not a stuffy suit place
The possibility of becoming famous, which I don't want to go into just yet

So, I spent the whole weekend semi-excited for today. Then today came, and I'm a nervous wreck. I have not yet received a call, one way or the other. Jay suggested that if I don't hear back by around 3pm or so, I should call them. It is now 2:16. Whenever Jay's phone rings, I just about have a heart attack because I'm waiting so "patiently" for mine to ring. I take my phone with me wherever I go, like walking the dog or checking the mail.

I don't want to call them myself, even though I know I should. For one thing, I'm not sure if they've figured out a way to go around the agency, so I don't know if I need to call the agency first. But that's just an excuse. Really, I'm scared to death of hearing that this super awesome job that seems to have been made just for me is given to someone else. I can't handle any more rejection, especially after getting my hopes up so high. If I hear the words "we've decided to go with someone else" one more time, I will have a breakdown.

So I'm waiting. It really is the hardest part.

I say call again. Let them know you are not afraid to assert yourself as the best person for the job. I would call and simply ask what the status is of the job position. I really hope you get this job.

The guy called me back and they want me to come in for a 2nd interview tomorrow. Jay thinks it's to make sure I can actually do the job. I dunno. So you'll all hear tomorrow (hopefully)!
