DC photoblog - a longun

You should know that when Craig and I take pictures, they are generally humorous in nature, consisting of statue-copying and other things that only we think are funny.

Now for the photos:

What more proof do you need that we were in Washington DC?

Here's the White House.
Notice the Washington Monument in the background. We'll get to that later. You can also see
1) a protest sign
2) the front of a cop car
3) fat midwestern tourists
4) an armed guard on the roof

This last is the 3rd reason that I did not try to jump the gate, immediately following the lateness of the hour and lack of interest, in that order.

Here's General Rock Paper Scissors. We never did find out what he was pointing at.

This is the Dwight D. Eisenhower Executive Office Building.
It has as many words in it's name as it has windows.

I found a lot of typos engraved into stone.

Just to show that it's not a stylized thing, here's the word immediately following that one. (At the boy scouts monument.)

They have this thing called the Washington Monument. It's tall.

We found a place where there should have been a statue, but wasn't. Of course I got up there to be a statue.

To the left is me getting back down because the security guard came by.

To the right is me after the security guard laughed at us.

The next day, we were cool and unaffected.

I found a sailor that looked like an astronaut.

And Craig found a very curvy woman.

These two giant phallic symbols are missiles.

Russia's is bigger.

This cartoon astronaut was understandably upset.

If you look closely, you can see Craig taking the picture, and me looking behind us at ......

.........the astro-suit of the future!

This picture wasn't of anything in particular, but there's a jackass looking directly into the camera, ruining the picture.

I forget who this statue is of, but he's important and I'm his assistant.

There were a lot of people at the National Zoo. I just wanted to see the otters.

I don't think this is what they meant.

My favorite quote of the trip was "Sure, this room service looks expensive, but in reality it's less than an hour's worth of work!"

And yes, I know how classy it is to order grilled cheese by room service.

The FDR memorial really is the best place to hang with giant men and giant dogs.

You'll notice there is no des or Craig in this picture. Besides being the only woman statue I saw, you just don't mock Eleanor.

So that's it. That's not nearly all the pictures we took, but I'm tired and this is hard.

ha ha, me too.
A homeless guy is the only one that said anything about it (he loved it, and we gave him some money) but I did get a LOT of stares and dirty looks. More than usual, I mean.

Glad you had a good time, Des.

Wasn't the weather perfect this weekend?

It was very nice on Sunday after the thunderstorm, but Saturday was very hot & humid.

I have to agree with you that posting pictures to the blogger is a pain in the butt. They need to correct that...seriously...

Glad you had a good time. The only real reason I want to visit the Washington area? The Library of Congress and the Smithsonian...oh yeah.

super des said...

We didn't go to the Library, but we hit a few of the Smithsonian Institutions... zoo, air & space, castle, etc.
They are free. They rock.

Oh, how great! I loved all the pictures!!! Looks like you guys had a great time. I'm so glad. You deserved a break after all the crap you've had to deal with at work lately!

It was a nice break, but that made it all the harder to come back to work!

Eleanor, you know, our first Hilary Clinton, ROCKS..
and so does that little dog.

What makes your trip so funny to me... is that my parents who have been married for 35 years, just took their anniversary trip to DC as well. Like 2 weeks ago.

DC is getting to be quite the place to commemorate your faithful love. who knew??

That dog was bigger than me, I think.

I just learned of another friend's mom who is going to DC for her bday. Who knew I was part of a trend?

Wow. That curvy woman looks exactly like me.

I'm surprised you posed naked in the middle of a busy city...

Well worth the frustration... Thanks for taking me on the virtual tour of Washington with you!!!

Thanks for coming along!

I think the Wash Monument is an even bigger phallus than either of those rockets. Of course, it probably also has the potential to kill far fewer people, which I think means that size doesn't matter.

Also, glad that the CUSS shirt could arouse so many passions in folks.

And the giant statue of the little dog is Fala. (Sometimes I scare myself.)

I did learn the dog's name eventually, but I didn't know it at the time.
