One of my compulsions* is that I must recant every detail of my day to my friends. Every conversation (whether I was involved or not), everything I saw, everything I thought about. In fact, that is the whole point of this blog – if you can say this blog has a point. Mostly it’s “you had to be there” types of things, but that doesn’t stop me one bit.
Something I’ve discovered about this is that often, people don’t find the same things funny as I do. This often comes up in the Repeating What Others Said category. Say, for instance, I show Fred a picture of Bob. Fred might say that Bob looks like a retarded 13-year old, which is not meant as an insult, and I find it hilarious. I will then tell Bob what Fred said, and Bob will not find it funny at all and does take it as an insult.
Or, Sally might say that Carl looks creepy with a beard. Carl’s reply is that Sally doesn’t know anything because she’s married. This makes no sense, so it could not possibly be insulting – only funny. But no. Sally doesn’t think it’s funny.
You can see how I’ve started many a war between my friends. Luckily, all of my friends are good cats so they don’t really get upset. It’s not like I’m spreading gossipy rumours. I’m just retelling the more exciting points of my day. It’s either that or hear about how I saw a big dust bunny on the floor, and it sat there for a while until I stepped on it later. Never mind, you’ll probably hear about that anyway (and you just did). But don’t get mad at the dust bunny.
* I would say it’s a super power, but I don’t consider it in nearly the same class as my super smell power or my electric shock power.

Repeating what others said sounds really dangerous. Unless you like your friends to be mad at each other so there is more stuff to repeat..
I was going to tell you a funny story about another blogger but now I've changed my mind..
That other blogger said you wear your pants backwards like Kris Kross.
So DOES Carl really look creepy with a beard-that's what I want to know.
:o)
Personally I like Carl's beard. And I'm not married, so I must know!
I am also a detailed recounter of events, so I appreciate your compulsion. The devil is in the details.
I think that's why our conversations are so awesome - they're all other people's.
