*note: the following does not apply to my friends. It applies mostly to people like nosy coworkers.
****************************
I'm tired of people asking if I'm ok. You don't know me well enough to judge my okayness. And even if I wasn't ok, you asking is not going to help at all. People mostly ask me this when I am not talkative. Did it ever occur to you that
A) I'm tired
B) I'm busy
C) I don't like you
D) I'm not a talkative person anyway
?
I'm guessing you never considered these options. You just assumed that I wile away my days gabbing about the latest celebrity news or the weather, just like you do. I don't prefer sitting at my desk, in the corner of the office where no one can just "pass by," listening to music.
What if I wasn't ok? What if I was sobbing uncontrollably in the bathroom? Asking "Are you ok?" will not do anything except make me throw a glass at your head. Clearly I'm not ok. And what can you do for me? Nothing. But since I am not crying in the bathroom, please leave me alone. Maybe I ate some bad lasagna and am feeling sick. Maybe there is something going on in my personal life that doesn't involve you and I don't feel the need to share it with you.
I'm not the type of person to come looking for assistance or open up to strangers. If it's something you need to know, I will tell you.
Maybe you're asking if I'm ok because you noticed that I made 3 mistakes. People make mistakes. In fact, I feel confident in saying that I make less than you do. That's why it's such a shock that I make mistakes at all, I guess. Maybe I wouldn't make mistakes if
A) people didn't come mess with my things -taking them and putting them back in the wrong place (if they are put back at all)
B) other people did their jobs correctly
C) I wasn't constantly interrupted by people asking if I'm ok
Ok, I'm done ranting and venting (raventing) now. Thanks for listening.
ps- anyone that leaves a comment asking if I'm ok will be shot.

okay.
I won't ask if you're ok-but are you all-ri....oh I see you're not in the mood for those sort of questions. :o)
And actually, I'm fine. I'm not in a particularly bad mood or anything.
These are just conditioned responses to situations.
It's like saying "How's it going", "Working hard" "Watcha doin", "Could you leave the room for a moment because I'm going to punch Bill in the nuts and I don't want any witnesses"..
We are conditioned to say stuff in situations. So we say it because we are like monkeys. Without the long tails..
Hey, can I do the shooting?
I'm a professional.
I wish I worked with monkeys.
Gunfighter, of course you can. Nothing but the best for the people I am about to kill.
Well, you're incredibly far away from me so....
Are you okay?
That's it. Get her Gunfighter!
That's exactly what I use my Cat Boots for sometimes :) Thanks so much for stopping by my site--

I'm going to have to find out more about these Cat Boots....
I don't know. I ask people who seem upset if they are OK because if I see someone who is not OK, I am often worried about them and not sure what to do. Maybe there is something that I can do for the upset looking person. Maybe they just need to talk to someone.
On the other hand, if in the past, the upset/quiet person has made it clear that she does not like these questions, I don't ask. But then I walk around feeling guilty.
That's because you are smarter and nicer than the people I work with.
Yep- I am one of them. I ask it. Especially if things are looking not so okay.
As a teacher, I hear and read stories all the damn time about kids who were about ready to end it all unless someone did something nice for them that day.
Ugh... so ummm... things are good?? Right??
Alright Laura, I'll forgive you. It IS important for teachers to care. For that matter, the Count is also forgiven. (Damn I know a lot of teachers.)
However, if either of you had boring office jobs like me and weren't out "improving the world through the children" then you would be shot.
And Im much better now, thanks.
:)
oooo raventing. Love it. I've been meaning to ask you, are you ok? *wink*
Seriously I hate it when people ask me that too, I am usually a very outgoing person but sometimes I just want to shut the hell up, you know?
Oh, I know Flutter. I know.
