Well it’s a new year (2007), so I feel I should bring up the topic that is on everyone’s lips: New Year’s Resolutions.
I’m against them. Not to say I’m against people trying to better themselves by losing weight or breaking a bad habit, but I don’t see the point in waiting. Why wait til January? I know the whole “new beginning” thing, but still, why postpone it? If you want to lose weight, start working out in July, so you’re in the habit by the holidays. Stop-smoking aids are available all year round. And so on.
This is the same reason I don’t celebrate things like Mother’s Day or Valentines. If you’re going to honor or show your love for someone, why only do it once a year? And the same day that everyone else does? Restaurants and flower shops are really busy those days. Your mom or your date will feel more special and appreciated if you take them out randomly. When you wait for that “special day” then it feels forced.
Not surprisingly, gyms are emptier most months than in January. Real gym goers have to put up with the resolvers for about a month before they can get back to their normal routine. (Some people do keep their resolutions, but let’s face it - most don’t.) It’s not really helping anyone if you don’t stick to your guns.
Ps – How long do I have to keep saying “happy new year” to people? Most other holidays, the greeting ends after the holiday. You don’t say “merry xmas” on December 26. You don’t say “happy bday” on June 15. (Well you might to someone else, but not to me.) Yet here it is January 2, and people still expect me to wish them a happy new year, even if I wished them one last time I saw them. If I don’t say it, they think that I want them to have a bad year, and that’s not actually something I care about. We should just say “happy new year” up to it, or all year long. None of this "partially through the month" crap.
With that said,
happy new year!

Hey a double post.
I totally agree. But my Mom expects a gift on Mothers Day. Even though I am nice to her all year long. She is just so ungrateful,ha,ha,happy new...oh, forget it..
Yeah, I hate that about the gym. I was in there Saturday and remember thinking "Well, this is the last time it'll be this quiet for about a month. Fuckers." I should become a people under the stairs, speaking of that. People are goofy in my gym all the time.
Yes, I agree completely. As always, I adore you for saying the things that are either on my mind or should have been but weren't until you said them.
I think I'll start a revlution. Y'all are in on it now.
