I curse thee, spam!

The other day I made a mistake. I was lured in by the promise of free stuff and entered my email into a spam maker. I didn’t get any further than the first step, but that was already too far. Now I get around 100 spam emails a day promising me for free stuff that I’ll never receive. Luckily, my email host is pretty good about catching them so I only have to go into my spam folder and press “delete all.”

I’ve done the survey thing before. It’s amazing what a gal will resort to when she’s out of work for 3 months due to the loss of her hand use. All I ever got from doing every product survey ever conceived was some free shampoo and a check for $2.

I was on the AC Neilsen panel for a while (the same people that release tv show ratings). All I had to do was use this special scanner to scan the bar codes of my groceries. I felt that as a vegan and consumer of those “weird” groceries that my input was invaluable. I like to think that I made a difference, that there are more vegan foods available in more stores now. I did that for about 2 years and stopped when I moved to NYC. But I did get a free sewing machine out of it, so that’s pretty cool. Never mind that I still haven’t used the sewing machine. The fact is that I have it.

However the Neilsen thing didn’t fill my inbox with spam. It had nothing whatsoever to do with computers. Not like this current spam machine. I wonder how long it’ll take for the robots to give up because I’m not responding. Arrggg.

Both the Nielsen panel and free sewing machine are bitchin' even if you have not used the machine. I used to do online surveys and I got 500 airmiles for it. So that was decent.
