the evils of arrested DESvelopment

It all started on xmas. Actually, a few days after xmas, when The Boyfriend returned from his parents’ house with my presents. One present was from the Mother in Law. I admit that on my wish list, I asked for all seasons of Arrested Development on DVD (heretofore called AD for brevity, and yes, I realize that this sentence is not very brief in of itself). I didn’t specify that I would prefer to receive the DVDs in order (season 1 first, then 2, and lastly 3) because it is a sequential show. Because of my oversight, I received season 3. I do appreciate the gift, but I had to go buy AD seasons 1 and 2 before fully enjoying it.

Thus begins my recent ebay spree.

I ended up buying both the remaining ADs from the same guy, and they arrived yesterday. I had not seen all the episodes, mainly due to my non-watching of tv. So we popped in the first disc (season 1, disc 1). There are 6 or 7 22-minute episodes on each disc. So after a couple hours of good laughs, disc 1 ended. We took a break. I did the dishes. Boyfriend did homework. We made hot chocolate. Then we popped in disc 2 and drank our hot chocolate.

More laughs and more time passed. We kept saying “just one more episode” but then the next would start before we had a chance to turn it off. We watched the whole of disc 2 that way. When it was finally over, I wanted to go to bed. However, in my irresponsibility, I had forgotten to make my lunch or do anything else in preparation for today’s workday. So I did all that. And got to bed at an hour much closer to 2am than I normally prefer. I also decided that today would not be a Gym Day, even though it really should be. But I didn’t want to get all that stuff ready as well, plus be extra pre-tired today due to lack of sleep. (Later realized I also needed clean laundry, which I don't have.)

Point is, I’m very tired today. But you know I’m going to go home and do it again tonight. I’ve got 7 more discs to get through before I can start over or rest easy.

Oh my. Yes, this has happened to me, but usually with shows of far less quality. Like "Hunter," my favorite show from 6th grade. Or the "Golden Girls." OK, that show is on quality with AD, although by watching so many in a row, I was crushed to discover how many inconsistencies there were in the show. Still, hilarious.

Someone I know did this with "Dawson's Creek". But, um you don't know her. She's like, from Canada. Yeah, Canada.

See, the great thing about AD is that it is consistent. That's why I had to start at the beginning!

And thanks, yous guys, for admitting you did it with lame shows. I'm not really at your level, because AD isn't lame, but someone else earlier did try to bond with me by admitting she did this with what is really a lame show but she thinks is the best.
