welcome back

Ok, I know I said I was going to stay away from the work-bitching, but sometimes it can’t be helped.

Even though Wednesday I worked a half day (remember the fire?) and Thursday I worked a half day, I still had nothing to do. In fact, Thursday I even left early because I would rather spend 3 hours in an airport reading than any time at all at work. Today on my return after 2+ days gone, I still have very little to do. Most of my time is spent fixing everything that my coworkers screwed up while I was gone. I tell them just to leave it for me, but they insist on “helping” me. I spend the rest of the time arguing with the new receptionist.

I’ll explain the receptionist situation:
We hired this new person (A) to help out our current receptionist (S). This way, lunches are covered and things that require S to be away from her desk are easier to manage. However, I’ve just found out that S will be out for several months with an illness, and probably won’t come back at all. That means A is now “in charge”. One of the things she definitely is in charge of is pissing me off.

Her excuse is always “that’s how S told me to do it” which doesn’t make any sense because S has worked here for several years and knows how things run. Besides the fact that none of these things were done that way before A started doing them.
Some examples:
-I tell her staple the mail together, because I just have to take it apart anyway, what with “the mail” as a whole actually being made up of separate things.
-I say to make sure when she stamps “completed” on something that she has actually completed it.
-She said “Why don’t you ever answer the damn phone? These people are driving me crazy!” I gave her the list of reasons why, namely that she is the receptionist, not me.

So you get the picture. Basically anything I do or say is met with an argument by A. We’ve even had to bring in Boss to settle a few things. I do concede that she could be right; S could have told her to do these things. But S was not following her own directions if that’s the case, and I want to continue doing things the way I like them.

However, she has inspired me to set my final day here – July 25, 2007. Only 260 days from today. A little over 8 months. I’ve already been here a year. Passed the halfway mark without even knowing it.

Ok, so that’s enough for now. I’ll just keep counting down and arguing.

Hilarious.

At least the one things she does right, she also does well. Which is of course unfortunate for you. But now you have an escape plan. So that is good.
