subconscious songs

I woke up this morning with a song in my head. A song I don’t even like. “Smoking in the Boys’ Room” by Motley Crue.

In my dream I was listening to it, and I knew all the words. And I didn’t just dream-think “I know the words to this song.” I sang along. This means that I know the words in real life, but they are so traumatic that I have repressed this knowledge into my subconscious. But if this song comes on the radio, or more likely a jukebox since I have no control over that, I will sing along. Especially if I’ve got a few rum screwdrivers in me.

Note: I don’t have to be drunk to sing, but I always sing when I drink. If I know all the words, there’s no stopping me. I will serenade you with all the 80s hits, including, apparently, Motley Crue.

So I was very unhappy with my realizations until Craig mentioned he had a worse song in his head:

"Toxic" by Britney Spears.

I do not know the words to that song.

The only way to get a bad song out of your head is to get an even worse song in your head. A better song won't work.

When all else fails, I think of Chicago's Greatest Hits: "Just You And Me, Simple And Free"

Twisted Sister is the cure.

"I wanna Rock" or "We're Not Gonna Take It!" will glue themselves to your brain the minute you hear the cliche'ed drum beat and the first cliche'ed riff, and if any other lame ass songs try to take their place, the mighty Dee Snyder will frighten them away with his purple striped cheeks and his crimped red hair and his screaming refrain: "YOU'RE ALL WORTHLESS AND WEAK!"

Plus it's friggin' Twisted Sister! It will ALWAYS be cool. Always appropriate.

Dee Snyder. heh

I'll take Twisted Sister over the Crue any day.

You can try Songs For Lesbians at www.urlsbn.blogspot.com . They work even if you aren't a lesbian! Streaming, download mp3 or podcast.

Thanks for the ad, but I actually have plenty of music to choose from. Not that I'm against it because it's lesbian. Unless it's worse than these songs and gets in my head easier. Then I'm against it.
