Instead of writing about how much I hate everyone at work because they are idiots and how much more work I have to do because of it and how busy I am because I also have real work to do, I am going to write about my new happy place.
Starting very soon, my new happy place is going to be Animal Haven. It is a no-kill shelter (like I would volunteer at the other kind!) and I will be a "cat socializer". This means that I will spend my Saturdays playing with feral kitties and getting them more used to people so that they will have an easier time finding a nice home. This is a good job for me because cats like me. I've never met one that didn't. And, I like them right back. I think I can teach them to like other people as well, and then teach the people what to do so that the cats will continue to like them.
My training starts this coming Saturday. I sent in an application months ago when I first moved to NYC, and I never got a response. I admit, I felt a little dejected. Then yesterday I got a call, and she apologized for taking so long but they didn't have any openings. Now they do have openings AND they're opening a new shelter really close to my house. So they wanted to make sure I was still interested. And yes, by god, I am.
The only problem I will have is that I will want to take all the kitties home, especially the ones that no one else wants. However, another reason this shelter is great is that they have a nice little home in the country for all the animals that couldn't find another home. There they still get taken care of, and they get to run around and scratch and bark and do whatever they want and nobody kills them. This is good stuff, and des will have a happy place she can go to escape her crappy job and to help kitties.
Yay for me.

I was a cat volunteer too! I have the scars to prove it LOL. It is good that the cats like you.
Yes, be careful. My pal Tina ended up with over 20 cats...all the one-eyed, three legged ones with seizures and thyroid problems. But she loves 'em.
